The restaurants of Leeuwarden city centre are home to various nationalities. Although many people patronise these exotic establishments, enjoying their meals, the people behind the scenes go largely unknown. Near pop venue Neushoorn (Explore the North festival centre in 2016), there is even a row of businesses, including a Chinese, Argentinian and Turkish restaurant. Explore the North asked Jori Stam, Esmé van den Boom and Lilian Zielstra to spend time behind the scenes at these restaurants, to document them in writing. On Saturday at the festival in 2016, the writers read their work in the restaurants themselves. Later that evening, a compilation of the pieces followed in the Friesche Club.
Restaurants: Chinese: Kota Radja, Argentinian: El Toro, Turkish: Dunya Döner
