After having witnessed a stunning show of theirs at Eurosonic, in April 2013, Explore the North asked the men forming the British band Public Service Broadcasting whether they would be interested in writing new music based on the beautiful images shot of the legendary 1963 Elfstedentocht, the marathon skating race passing through eleven Frisian towns and cities. The festival is always attempting to find exciting ways to connect international artists with its own Friesland region. The band was eager to accept this offer and set to work with the material received from Fries Film Archief, the Frisian film archives. This resulted in two wonderful video clips in which images and music interconnect in marvellous manner. Public Service Broadcasting performed live at Explore the North on 23 November, with an entire show in which the Elfstedentocht parts 1 & 2 were incorporated.
