Four young writers wrote for four Leeuwarden retailers. Gerjon Gijsbers, Marleen Nagtegaal, Willem Claassen and Joost Oomen wrote short stories especially for this performance, which were then read out by the entrepreneurs from the Frisian capital. The stories the audience could listen to at Explore the North 2014 included the recollection of a butcher’s son, read by a real butcher who on weekdays shares his stories with sides of beef. This retailers prose anchored fiction in the Frisian soil. Seeing promising young writers and experienced entrepreneurs taking to the stage together made for a unique performance, with its strange yet compelling artistic combination.
