There are few people aware of the fact that the devil once showed his face in Leeuwarden, personified by Dr Faust. One day, the Doctor visited a barber in Amelandsstraat for a shave. Yet no matter how hard the barber slaved away, Faust's beard immediately grew back. This strange occurrence heralded a series of events which no one in the city was ever to forget. It all ended up with people having to wade in blood up to their ankles across Waagsplein square. Of course nobody is still alive to tell the tale, the legends are all that remains. In 2014 Explore the North set out to discover the truth about this dark episode in Leeuwarden history. The investigation was interwoven with Explore the North's folk story theme.
