MONSTROIUS LYRICS AND GRITTY, DARK MUSIC

Imagine that Michael Gira (Swans front man) and Kanye West grew up in the Frisian countryside and recorded a ramshackle black metal record there together. Pop that in a blender with a kilo of rotting fruit and a few rolls of barbed wire and you will know exactly what Willie Darktrousers & de Splinters’ album Glibberburen sounds like. Gritty, grimy, hard-hitting and dark. Released in October, the album reveals the result of a year of experimentation with the combination of a small cocktail drum kit, the most primitive guitar tuning in the world, Auto-Tune and a profusion of distortion and fuzz.

De Splinters from Groningen are drummer Maud and bass player Heiko. They are the band accompanying the singer who, besides being a musician, is also active as a visual artist. Especially for Explore the North, the band will be emphasising the ritualistic and religious aspects of the musical experience in a venue decorated by the singer.
