Entrancing voodoo-funk with African and French lyrics

Vaudou Game is the musical creation of Peter Solo, born in Aného-Glidji (Togo). Inspired by the energetic Afrofunk of the 1970s, together with his band he combines voodoo rhythms with funk and soul. For some five years now, Vaudoo Game has been touring far and wide with its grooving and hip-moving voodoo-funk. In November the charismatic front man and the tight band will be bringing their funky set to Explore the North, featuring lyrics in French and in African languages. With a number of new band members from Togo and a new record – Otodi – released in October 2018 to boot, they will be playing an electrifying set that never fails to become an unforgettable dance fest.

Explore voodoo

Leendert van der Valk is a freelance journalist specialising in music journalism and narrative journalism. In his work, music is usually the hook for a wider story. This is certainly the case in his new book, published in 2017, VOUDOU, van New Orleans naar Cotonou op het ritme van de goden (VOUDOU: from New Orleans to Cotonou on the rhythm of the gods). During the three Explore festival days, Leendert will be in Leeuwarden to induct you into the world of voodoo and music. On Thursday, he will be giving the perfect introduction to the Vaudou Game gig: a musical lecture featuring readings from his book and many musical interludes, from contemporary and poppy to obscure and weird.
